Ocean Kitchen Scotland

Ocean Plastic Pots began in our kitchen during lockdown. Like many families with young children, we had a windowsill full of herbs and chili plants, but I had a spark of an idea after salvaging a ship full of plastic as a deep sea diver – what if we could turn ocean plastic into something useful? Something positive for the environment? That’s how our little plant pots, made from plastic picked up off beaches, were born. Our kids joined in, helping with our first pots, and they loved seeing the colourful plastic we’d collected in our creations.

Our very first market was at Leith Food Market in Edinburgh, where we sold our pots planted with fresh herbs. From there, our journey grew. We’ve had the privilege of being at the Chelsea Flower Show, supplying large retailers, showcasing at garden shows all over the UK, and working with some truly inspiring brands. Along the way, we’ve met so many amazing people, many of whom are now great friends.

As we’ve learned more about moulding and working with waste plastic, our product range has expanded. We started with Ocean Plastic Pots, but now we also have a full line of garden tools, including trowels – even heart-shaped ones! Each product helps you bring sustainability from pot to plate, made for people who care deeply about the environment and where their food comes from.

And we’re not stopping there. Our new kitchen knives, crafted from waste fish boxes collected directly from fishermen, are a big step forward in eliminating plastic waste from the food supply chain. They’re now being used by chefs to prep fresh, British-grown produce, and we couldn’t be more excited about it.

So, as we grow, we’re changing our name to Ocean Kitchen Scotland. While we’ll still offer our award-winning Ocean Plastic Pots, the new name reflects our broader range of products and the journey we’ve been on. It’s a nod to where it all began, around our kitchen table.

We’re also excited to introduce Ocean Swallows, a collaboration with Anna Campbell-Jones. These beautiful pieces, made from beach plastic we’ve collected, are a perfect addition to your kitchen, just like our original pots were to our home.

We can’t wait to see where the journey takes us next!
